Molecular and General Genetics (3 credits)
This course will certainly change the way you see everything around you.
I had superstar Prof. Malcolm Whiteway for this course
Here is the Course Outline
Tutorials: These tutorials are once a week and they are mandatory. Each tutorial begins with a simple 5 minute quiz on the previous week’s lectures. Additionally, a one page paper is due each week on selective topics related to the course and current research in genetics. Many students learn more from the TAs in these tutorials than in lectures. This is likely because the tutorials are in smaller groups, participation is encouraged, and more time is spent going over difficult concepts.
Exams: Lots of problem solving so make sure you have all the concepts worked out in your mind. For instance, you may be given certain bits of information about a family’s medical history and you’ll have to determine the probability of the next child having X-disease. Also be familiar with the various techniques we use in DNA sequencing
